Trump’s New Border Czar Receives Death Threats

Tom Homan, President-elect Donald Trump’s newly appointed ‘border czar’ revealed that he and his family have been receiving death threats since his appointment.
Homan, tasked with overseeing U.S. border security, revealed on Monday morning on Fox & Friends that his family is currently “not at home” due to the death threats. The former acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement director (ICE), appointed by Trump on Truth Social, vowed that these threats would not deter him from his mission.
“That’s something we’re going to deal with. They’re not going to shut me up. They’re not going to make me go away. This is the biggest national security vulnerability this nation has seen since 9/11. We have to fix it,” he said.
“They are not going to bully me away,” Homan added.
Newsweek has contacted the Homan and the Trump-Vance transition team for comment.
Border security and mass deportations were central issues on the Republican Party platform, playing a pivotal role in Donald Trump’s decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
As the new border czar, Homan is tasked with Trump’s promise to enforce stricter immigration policies.
Homan said it will be his job to execute Trump’s flagship policy to carry out “the largest deportation operation in history” and that he will begin by targeting those that “a federal judge said you must go and they didn’t.”.
“I’ve been on this network for years complaining about what this administration did to this border. I’ve been yelling and screaming about it and what they need to do to fix it. So when the president asked me, ‘Would you come back and fix it?’ Of course. I’d be a hypocrite if I didn’t.
Homan added: “I’m honored the president asked me to come back and help solve this national security crisis, so I’m looking forward to it”.
“You have the right to claim asylum. You have a right to see a judge. We make that happen… [But if the] judge says you must go home, then we have to take them home,” Homan said.
Illegal border crossings have spiked under the Biden-Harris administration, reaching nearly 3 million in fiscal year 2024, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Under Joe Biden’s presidency, there have been over 10.8 million illegal encounters.
Homan’s appointment is expected to be key in tackling issues related to the southern frontier: border security, mass deportations, and cracking down on cartels.
His role is on the front line of immigration policy, and it could be key to the success or failure of Trump’s administration. Promises on immigration were at the forefront of Trump’s bid for the White House and helped to propel him to victory.
In a 60 Minutes interview, when pressed on whether there is a way to conduct a mass deportation plan without family separation, Homan said, “Of course there is. Families can be deported together.”
Family separation at the U.S.-Mexico border occurs when children are taken from their parents or guardians after crossing into the U.S. illegally.
Amy Fischer, director of refugee and migrant rights at Amnesty International USA said of Homan’s appointment: “President-elect Trump has already openly announced his intention to implement policies that completely disregard human rights, human dignity, and family unity.
“The president-elect has repeated harmful lies about immigrant communities and spread baseless accusations about people seeking safety in the United States.
“And now, news reports suggest that President-elect Trump is aiming to appoint officials that have a history of implementing family separation and mass deportation.”
She added: “The proposed policies are rooted in racism and xenophobia with the sole aim of causing cruel and immense suffering to people coming to the US to rebuild their lives. Immigrant communities are critical members of the US that contribute to the economy, pay taxes, and help cities and towns thrive.”
Homan was also reported to have accepted an invitation to a white nationalist conference organized by Nick Fuentes, known for his denial of the Holocaust. Fuentes also dined with Trump and Kanye West at Mar-a-Lago in 2022.
